One held in Godhra case

February 04, 2003 17:59 IST

Idris Yusuf Mafat, an accused in the attack on the Sabarmati Express in Godhra on February 27, 2002, was arrested from Lunawada town in the neighbouring Panchmahal district of Gujarat on Tuesday.

The police then took him to an undisclosed destination for interrogation. Mafat is also suspected of being involved in the riots that followed the Godhra incident.

Two of the key accused -- Farukh Bana, a disqualified member of the Godhra civic body and Salim Panwala -- are still absconding.

The Gujarat high court had on Monday granted conditional bail to 10 people who were allegedly in the mob that set ablaze the S-6 coach of the train.
