Bihar braces for bandh

December 08, 2003 21:29 IST

Bihar is bracing for a bandh called by the National Democratic Alliance on Tuesday to protest against the removal of director general of police D P Ojha.

An NDA delegation led by Bihar convenor Nand Kishore Yadav submitted a memorandum to Governor M Rama Jois demanding dismissal of the state government.

It also requested him to direct the government to make public Ojha's report on controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal Member of Parliament from Siwan, Mohammed Shahabuddin, detailing his links with Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence and anti-national elements.

"The Rabri Devi ministry's anti-national activities have been established by the 100-page report submitted by Ojha to the state government and hence the governor should sack the government in national interest," Yadav said.

RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav, meanwhile, said he had "irrefutable evidence" that Ojha had served the interest of the Ranvir Sena, a private army of upper caste landlords, and "criminals with NDA leanings".

Ranvir Sena leaders and criminals "having links with the NDA", Yadav said, frequently visited Ojha and a conspiracy to topple the government was hatched in his office.

The ousted DGP had also denigrated women by calling Rabri Devi, his wife, "dumb", he alleged.
