A Muslim woman who deposed before the Nanavati Commission on Thursday severely criticised the role of police in Naroda Patia, which witnessed the most gruesome massacre in the post-Godhra riots.

Deposing before Justice (retd) G T Nanavati and Justice (retd) K G Shah, Fatima Bibi Sheikh said the policemen of her area deliberately did not save them and instead diverted women and children towards the mob on February 28, 2002.

She alleged that when she approached some police personnel, stationed close by, they said, "If Muslims in Godhra had not done that (killed the karsevaks) then your condition would not have become like this."
