Tell us your dreams for India

August 18, 2003

'I look forward to an India of the youth'

I am a Dalit MLA in the Uttar Pradesh assembly and belong to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

I look forward to an India of the youth. The trouble in our country is that one gets to some position of prominence only at the fag end of life when one has lost enthusiasm and energy to take the nation ahead.

The decision-makers need to realise that it is high time that the younger people were given a chance to perform. If they fail, you may chuck them out, but don't deny them an opportunity.

I believe that because the leadership in Western countries traditionally remained in younger hands, they could march far ahead of us.

I hope there is change in our attitude, our mindset, so that we can truly build an India of our dreams -- where we stand at par with the developed world.

If there is any one thing that needs to be tackled very seriously it is our population.

What I like most about our people is their warmth, simplicity and genuineness.
