Parliament security lapse: 3 suspended

August 09, 2003 22:08 IST

Three security personnel were on Saturday suspended and an inquiry ordered after a lookalike of Union Shipping Minister Shatrughan Sinha entered the Parliament complex without a pass.

Security Officer B K Ram and Security Assistants Dinesh Singh and Anil Kumar were suspended after a high-level meeting to discuss the unauthorised entry of Balbir Singh Rajput, who bears a striking resemblance to Sinha, into the high security complex.

Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker P M Sayeed said the inquiry will find out if there was anything more sinister than a news report by a television channel.

"There has been a lapse to the extent that the said person was allowed to get in without verification," he said adding, "We have taken the matter seriously."

The security around the complex came under scrutiny after some terrorists managed to enter the premises and launch a suicide attack on December 13, 2001.
