Voting for 3 RS seats in Kerala concludes

April 14, 2003 14:27 IST

Voting in a crucial election for three Rajya Sabha seats in Kerala conluded in Thiruvananthapuram within two hours of its commencement on Monday.

All 140 MLAs turned up to cast their vote, sources in the legislature secretariat said.

The results are expected to be out by the the evening.

The election has assumed political significance mainly due to the presence of a rebel Congress nominee in the fray, put up by senior Congress leader K Karunakaran.

The rebel, Kodoth Govindan Nair, has been expelled from the party for six years for his refusal to pull out of the fray in favour of the official nominees, Vayalar Ravi and Thennala Balakrishna Pillai.
