Ravi Kant Sharma surrenders in Ambala,
to be in judicial custody till October 10

Senior IPS officer Ravi Kant Sharma, prime suspect in murder of Indian Express reporter Shivani Bhatnagar, surrendered before a court in Ambala on Friday afternoon, his daughter told PTI.

Sharma surrendered before Chief Judicial Magistrate Sarita Gupta who sent him to judicial custody till October 10.

Komal told PTI that she was rushing to Ambala while her mother, Madhu Sharma, and sister, Pragati, who were in Karnal, were also rushing there.

Sharma, who was IG (Prisons), had been evading arrest since August 3 after proceeding on 10 days leave following the arrest of another suspect in the case on July 30.

The Haryana cadre IPS officer made several unsuccessful attempts to secure bail from lower courts in Haryana and Delhi, besides the Delhi high court. He has been suspended from service by the Haryana government.
