3 killed, 27 injured as communal
violence hits Baroda

Police opened fire on two clashing groups in the sensitive Fatehpura locality killing one person while two were stabbed to death in the mob violence, Police Commissioner D D Tuteja said.

Trouble broke out when people coming out of a mosque after offering Friday prayers and those taking part in the immersion procession hurled stones and acid bottles at each other.

A total of 38 persons were arrested in connection with the incident, Tuteja said, adding the situation had been brought under control.

Violence was also reported from Panigate, Yakutpura, Machhipith and Raopura areas with the immersion processions proceeding amidst tight security.

Some unidentified persons threw stones at an immersion procession in Raopura area, police said.
