Farmer's suicide: Compensation demanded

The body of Beechanhalli gram panchayat member Guruswamy, who jumped into the Cauvery river and ended his life, has been recovered.

Beechanhalli comes under Mysore district.

Farmers in Mysore, protesting the release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu, on Thursday staged a dharna with the body, demanding adequate compensation to the victim's family.

The situation at the Kabini dam site was tense but under control, a report from Mysore said.

In Mandya, farmers picketed central and state government offices as part of their intensified agitation.

A 100 agitators were arrested, police said. The situation in the district, however, was calm, they said.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation suspended its Mandya-Mysore bus services, but trains plied normally.
