Patna court refuses to lift stay on serial Ramkhilavan

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

A Patna court on Saturday dismissed the petition filed by SABe TV chairman Gautam Adhikari against the interim stay on the telecast of controversial TV serial Ramkhilavan CM 'n' Family that allegedly lampoons former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav and his wife, Chief Minister Rabri Devi.

District and sessions judge Damodar Prasad also asked the SABe TV to reply to the show cause notice issued to them by the court of sub-judge-I, Patna, asking them to explain why the telecast of the serial should not be stayed.

The judge also directed the lower court to hear the matter on a priority basis and to dispose of the case within 10 days.

The telecast of the serial had earlier been stayed till August 31 and then till September 7.

Members of Bihar's ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal say the principal character in the serial, played by actor Vineet Kumar, bears a close resemblance to Yadav with his cropped salt-and-pepper hair and glasses dangling around his neck.

The serial's protagonists also speak Hindi with a Bihari accent.
