Judicial custody for Karnataka farmer leader Made Gowda

The president of the Cauvery River Protection Committee, G Made Gowda, was on Thursday remanded to fourteen days of judicial custody by the Mandya local court.

His detention came as the agitation of the farmers against Karnataka government's decision to release water to Tamil Nadu entered the fourth day.

Mandya district police arrested Gowda on Wednesday, while he was on an indefinite hunger strike.

Along with Gowda, legislators M H Athamananda and Siddaraju were also remanded to judicial custody till November 14.

Though both belong to the Congress party, they have aligned with the agitating farmers and took part in Wednesday's indefinite hunger strike.

All of them of have been taken to Central Jail in Bangalore.

The state Bharatiya Janata Party president Basavaraj Sedam met Made Gowda and discussed about the farmers' agitation.
