Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar

The Cauvery River Protection Committee, which met in Mandya on Tuesday morning, decided to go continue with its agitation till the government stopped the release of water.

The president of the committee, G Made Gowda, accused the government of using 'high-handed tactics' to 'muzzle' the agitation.

He called upon the farmers to continue with the roadblocks and bandh. The farmers are also continuing their jail baro agitation at the Krishna Raja Sagar dam and the Kabini reservoir.

Some farmers tried to barge into the Kabini reservoir, but were prevented by the police

In Mysore, farmers' associations and other pro-Kannada activists staged a demonstration against the government, violating prohibitory orders imposed under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Protesting activists were arrested by the police and later released.

In Bangalore, the police clamped prohibitory order in and around the city till October 31.

City police commissioner M D Singh told said the order was issued as a precautionary measure.
