CPI-ML to resist American imperialism

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (Liberation) has decided to work closely with the communist parties of South Asia to resist American imperialism.

"We will develop wider links and closer cooperation with all communist parties and anti-imperialist forces for resisting American imperialism in South Asian countries," CPI-ML leader Jayan Rangpi said on Wednesday.

Rangpi said for the first time communist party representatives of South Asian countries, particularly Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Burma were participating in the congress with a clear-cut motive to chalk out strategies for resisting American imperialism.

With reference to China, where the communist party bought about drastic changes this month, the CPI-ML said that we have our share of reservation and concern about the orientation and fallout of the Chinese experiment.

"But given that China has to chart a new course without any standard socialist model to fall back upon, we would prefer to keep a close watch on the Chinese experiment and study it with an open mind," he said.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) said it is in favour of talks with the Maoists rebels to end the violence, killing and ongoing political crisis in Nepal.

Dhakal, former Nepal agriculture minister, said that though Maoists did not enjoy more than one per cent popular support in Nepal, the government must call them for talks to resolve the issues.

Dhakal and Yubraj Gyawali are attending the congress.

The CPN (UML) leaders claimed that if elections were held in Nepal their party would come to power and form the next government.

In the last elections we got 37 per cent popular vote. "Today the CPN (UML) has increased its support base because two major communist parties united and formed the present party," they said.

The CPN (UML) leaders said that they have support of other small communist parties like CPN (united centre) and Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party.
