Made Gowda suspends Cauvery agitation till November 29

Sadananda R in Chamarajanagar.

The Cauvery River Protection Committee has decided to suspend its agitation against the release of Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu till the Cauvery River Authority meets on November 29.

Committee chairman G Made Gowda termed it a 'temporary arrangement'.

Gowda, however, said his outfit would restart the agitation if the CRA decision was against the interest of the Karnataka farmers.

Addressing a gathering on Friday, Gowda said the reservoirs of the state would go empty before November 29.

The arrival of the northeast monsoon has blunted the agitation.

The Supreme Court on Thursday also deferred the hearing of the contempt case filed by Tamil Nadu against Karnataka to December 5.
