SGPC election: Badal faction supports Badungar, Tohra group backs Madoke

Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has nominated Kirpal Singh Badungar, the outgoing president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committee, for the top post of the apex Sikh body.

The Tohra faction of the SAD, in turn, has put its weight behind Sant Veer Singh Madoke for the presidentship of the SGPC.

Meanwhile, in a blow to the Badal faction, Jagdev Singh Talwandi, chairman of the Disciplinary Action Committee of the SAD-B, openly extended support to the Tohra faction by hobnobbing with their members at the Teja Singh Samundari Hall.

Talwandi is a past president of the SGPC having been nominated by the SAD for the post, which he held from November 30, 2000 to November 30 the following year.
