Alert on Himachal-J&K border

State Director General of Police A K Puri told PTI that a railway employee at Kandrori had spotted four suspected militants enquiring about some routes.

There were reports of about five militants from Pakistan having sneaked into the area and their entry into Himachal Pradesh could not be ruled out, he said.

Puri said additional para-military forces were deployed in the area and security beefed up at all strategic army locations and cantonments.

The area bordering Pathankot and the adjoining forests were being combed jointly by the Punjab and Himachal police with the assistance of intelligence bureau personnel.

There were apprehensions that militants might try and sneak into the state following pressure built on them after Thursday morning's attack on the Doda police lines in which three cops were killed, he said.

The Deputy Inspector General of police (Northern Range) has rushed to border areas in Chamba district, Puri said.

Tight security arrangements had also been made in view of a Congress rally to be addressed by party president Sonia Gandhi at Shahpur in Kangra district on Friday, he said.
