Three blasts in Ahmedabad, 12 hurt

Our Correspondent in Ahmedabad

Twelve people were injured when a series of blasts took place in buses run by the Ahmedabad Municipal Transport Service on Wednesday morning.

The blasts -- between 0930 and 1030 hrs -- occurred at Geeta Mandir, Vasna and Gurukul.

Seven of the injured were admitted to LG Hospital and five to Vadilal Sarabai Hospital near Ellis Bridge. All of them were stated to be in stable condition.

The Chairman of the AMTS, Surendra Bakshi, said, "At present we are checking all the buses before leaving them from depot."

The Security Advisor to Chief Minister Narendra Modi, K P S Gill, said the police had registered cases and was investigating the matter.

"It is too early to say whether the blasts have been carried out by the terrorists or they are the handiwork of the anti-social elements," he told rediff.com.

According to him miscreants in Ahmedabad had crude bombs and were using them freely.

Security in New Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata was beefed up following the incident.

A few days ago the home ministry had received intelligence reports that Pakistan-based gangster Dawood Ibrahim was planning to create disturbances in Gujarat.
