APCC vice-president Sudhir Kumar dead

Syed Amin Jafri in Hyderabad

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and former legislator P Sudhir Kumar, 43, died in Hyderabad on Sunday night.

Kumar, the younger son of former Union minister P Shiv Shankar, was ailing for sometime.

He is survived by wife and two children.

Kumar was appointed president of the AP Youth Congress in 1988. He hit the headlines in 1989 when he stormed into the assembly along with a group of activists.

He was elected to the assembly from Malakpet in December 1989. As a legislator, he was abducted by the People's War Group and later set free in May 1991 after the then Congress government led by N Janardhan Reddy released a prominent PWG leader Nimmaluri Bhaskar Rao.

He had unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls in 1994 and 1999.
