George Fernandes in Bikaner

Defence Minister George Fernandes arrived in Bikaner, Rajasthan, on Monday night to visit forward areas to assess the situation on the border with Pakistan.

Army chief General Sundararajan Padmanabhan and Air Chief Marshal S Krishnaswamy accompanied Fernandes, official sources said.

During his stay, Fernandes would hold discussions with army and air force officials.

The defence minister is scheduled to witness a demonstration of army's firepower at the Mahajan firing range on Tuesday.
