Shilas deposited with government treasury

Sharat Pradhan in Lucknow

The two shilas that were donated on March 15 by the Ramjanambhoomi Nyas president Ramchandra Das Paramhans were on Wednesday deposited with the government treasury in Faizabad.

"The shilas were kept in sealed steel boxes and were deposited with the district treasury," a senior Faizabad official told rediff.com

After the shila daan on March 15, the safety of the stone pillars had become a matter of concern for the Faizabad administration. The matter was complicated further when the chief priest of 'Bara Sthan', where the shilas were kept, demanded that they be removed from his temple.

Faizabad Commissioner A K Gupta had sought directions from the prime minister's office for the safekeeping of the pillars. However, word finally came from the Union home ministry on Tuesday asking Gupta to handover the shilas to the district magistrate, who decided to deposit them with the treasury.
