Restrictions on movement of trucks, buses to Ayodhya lifted

The Uttar Pradesh administration on Monday lifted restrictions on the movement of trucks and buses to and from Ayodhya, but said it would continue to keep a strict watch on the movement of Ram sewaks in large numbers.

Restrictions on the movement of locals was also lifted and the situation in the temple town was fast returning to normal, a home department spokesman told reporters in Lucknow.

"The number of security force personnel is being reduced gradually," he said.

However, all necessary security steps would continue to ensure compliance of the Supreme Court order in connection with the acquired land, the spokesman said.

The state government has sought the directives of the Centre with regard to the safe keeping of the carved stones (shilas)donated by the VHP on March 15, he said.
