Life limping back to normalcy in Ayodhya

After over a fortnight of 'undeclared curfew', life in Ayodhya is limping back to normalcy with the opening of shops and business establishments and people moving around freely, a day after the peaceful conclusion of the shila daan programme.

The town had been virtually converted into a fortress to block the entry of 'Ram sevaks' with barriers put up at various places and over 15,000 central paramilitary and police personnel deployed ahead of the VHP-sponsored programme.

The barriers have been removed and a large number of the security personnel were seen leaving the town.

BJP MP Vinay Katiyar said that Uttar Pradesh Governor Vishnukant Shastri had assured him of easing the security restrictions from Saturday evening onwards.

Meanwhile, batches of 'Ram sewaks' continued to pour in to have a darshan (glimpse) of the makeshift Ram temple on the government-acquired land and participate in the VHP's ongoing 100-day long poorna ahuti yagna (religious ritual), which commenced on February 24.
