Government will not allow activity at undisputed site: PM

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday assured the Lok Sabha that the government would not allow any activity at the undisputed site in Ayodhya till the Supreme Court gave its verdict.

"The government will not allow any activity in Ayodhya till the Supreme Court, which is going to hear the case on March 13, pronounces its judgment," he said responding to queries from the opposition on the government's stand in the light of the threat given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad to go ahead with a symbolic puja on March 15.

Asserting that the situation in Ayodhya "is totally under control", Vajpayee hoped that the view to be taken by the apex court would help in finding a solution to the dispute.

Vajpayee said negotiations were underway for an out of court settlement and the entire House should help in achieving it.

Giving details about security arrangements, Vajpayee said over 3,200 personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force, 1,800 men from the Provincial Armed Constabulary and 400 constables and 100 sub-inspectors of the Uttar Pradesh police had been deployed in Ayodhya.
