US concerned over Gujarat violence

The United States on Friday said that it was 'very concerned' over the violence in Gujarat, but stated that it was up to India to decide how to deal with it.

"The US has been following the situation in Gujarat closely and the American embassy in India is in touch with Indian authorities on the matter," state department spokesman Richard Boucher said.

"United States is very concerned, but it is mostly up to them (Indian authorities) to see what kind of steps should be taken," he added.
