Bandh begins on peaceful note in Rajasthan

The VHP-sponsored nationwide-bandh to protest the Godhra carnage on Wednesday began on peaceful note on Friday in Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan, official reports said.

Both government and the private educational institutions have been ordered closed in view of the bandh call.

Prohibitory orders were promulgated in several towns, including state capital Jaipur, to maintain law and order situation.

Market places remained closed even in remote areas and private city buses were off the roads. However, the state-run city buses were plying as usual.

The CBSE and the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education examinations were held as per schedule with police guarding the exam centres.

Reports from Ajmer, Jodhpur and Udaipur said the towns were observing a complete bandh.
