We will abide by court verdict: AIMPLB

As the Vishwa Hindu Parishad hardened its stand on the Ayodhya dispute on Saturday saying it was non-negotiable, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, holding its session in Hyderabad, sought the government's intervention to see that "those who are threatening to violate the Constitution are contained".

Reacting to the VHP's announcement in Hardwar of an agitation leading to the construction of the Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya, the secretary of the board, Mohammed Abdul Quraishi, said it was the "duty of the courts and the government to stop such violations".

"Our stand has been very clear that we will abide by the court verdict. Our doors are also open for talks with the government provided it takes the initiative," he said.

Quraishi, however, ruled out talks with "those elements responsible for the demolition of Babri mosque".

Asked about the declaration by VHP's central advisory body that the issue was non-negotiable, he said, "If they are law-abiding citizens, then they will abide by it. We want justice through courts."

The three-day 16th session of the Muslim Personal Law Board, which commenced on Friday night, would further discuss the Ayodhya issue and formulate a stand, he said.
