Senior BJP leader Jagdambi Prasad Yadav dead

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Union minister Jagdambi Prasad Yadav, Member of Parliament, died at Coimbatore on Thursday morning following brain haemorrhage, family members in Delhi said.

Yadav was visiting Coimbatore as the convenor of parliamentary subcommittee on official languages.

Seventy-seven-year old Yadav, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Godda in Jharkhand, is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters.

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee spoke to his family members on phone and consoled them. He issued necessary instructions that arrangements should be made to take his body to Delhi or his hometown in accordance with the wishes of the family, official sources said.

Yadav was Union minister of state during the Janata Party rule between 1977 and 1979. He held portfolios of Health, Family Welfare and Industry. Yadav was president of the Bihar Jan Sangh from 1968 to 1971 and president of Bihar BJP from 1981 to 1984.
