BSP legislature party in Bihar splits

The five-member Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislature party on Thursday split with four of its MLAs, including three ministers, deciding to join the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Bihar assembly Speaker Sadanand Singh was informed of the development through a letter signed by the four BSP MLAs, including the party's Bihar unit president Mahabali Singh.

Mahabali Singh, along with Rajesh Singh, Chhedilal Ram and Zakir Ahmed, submitted the letter to assembly secretary J P Pal, in the presence of state Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ramchandra Purve and RJD legislators Jaiprakash Narayan Yadav and Subhash Yadav.

The speaker is in Bangalore to attend a meeting of the All India Conference of Presiding Officers.

Singh claimed that the remaining BSP MLA, Suresh Pasi, had also supported the move but could not accompany them as he was away in his home constituency.

The BSP MLAs have urged the speaker to recognise them as members of the RJD legislative party.
