NCP supports Kalam's candidature for presidentship

The Nationalist Congress Party on Tuesday backed the National Democratic Alliance's decision to propose the name of scientist A P J Abdul Kalam for the post of President.

Party general secretary Jagannath Mishra said Kalam, with his outstanding achievements as a scientist, befitted the top constitutional post.

He appealed to all political parties to come forward in support of Kalam's candidature. "Kalam should be looked upon as a national choice and not as that of the NDA or the BJP [Bharatiya Janata Party]," Mishra said.
