Kalam happy over his nomination

Eminent scientist A P J Abdul Kalam on Monday night expressed happiness over the National Democratic Alliance's decision to back him for the post of President.

Kalam, who was interacting with professors of the Anna University in Chennai, sent word through Dr Radhakrishnan, his coordinating officer, that he was "very happy" about the choice. However, he said he would meet the press on Tuesday after everything was finalised.

Efforts to contact Dr Kalam over phone proved futile.

Radhakrishnan told waiting journalists at the university premises that Dr Kalam had received a call from New Delhi on Sunday night conveying the news of his nomination.

"The entire university and all the professors are thrilled over Kalam's nomination, because Kalam is one of our professors," Dr Radhakrishnan, now working as the private secretary to the vice-chancellor, said.

Kalam is now working as the professor of technology and societal transformation of the Ramanujan Computing Centre at the university.
