Two BSF personnel killed in Manipur bomb blast

At least two BSF personnel were killed and five others seriously injured on Wednesday when a powerful bomb planted by insurgents went off at Serou, 100 km from the state capital Imphal, in Thoubal district of Manipur, official sources said.

The bomb went off in the early hours killing two BSF personnel who were patrolling the area and injuring five others who have been hospitalised, they said.

Immediately after the blast, the remaining security personnel engaged the militants in a fire-fight but the casualties on the side of the militants were not immediately known, the sources said.

The militants escaped via the nearby jungles and hilly areas before the arrival of reinforcements, the sources added.

The area is considered to be a stronghold of the Manipur People's Liberation Front, a militant outfit.
