Split in Bihar unit of JD (U) is formalised

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The newly floated Janata Dal (Jay Prakash), a breakaway faction of the Janata Dal (United), has been recognised as separate group in the Bihar assembly by Speaker Sadanand Singh.

The 12-members JD(U) split last Tuesday with four of its MLAs forming the JD(JP) party.

Separate sitting arrangements were made in the assembly for the four MLAs - Laxmi Narayan Yadav, Jainandan Yadav, Vishwanath Singh and Sashi Kumar Rai.

Rai is the leader of the JD (JP) legislature party.

Sources in the JD(JP) said the party is likely to extend conditional support to the Rashtriya Janata Dal-led coalition government led by Chief Minister Rabri Devi.
