Jharkhand bandh disrupts normal life

Normal life was disrupted in Jharkhand on Wednesday as a dawn-to-dusk bandh called by pro-domicile groups began amidst tight security.

Streets in capital Ranchi wore a deserted look with shops and business establishments remaining shut and vehicles keeping off the roads.

Educational institutions too remained closed and government offices registered thin attendance.

Personnel of Rapid Action Force, Central Reserve Police Force and Jharkhand Armed Police have been deployed in sensitive areas.

Director General of Police R R Prasad said prohibitory orders have been imposed in Ranchi.

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in some localities of Jamshedpur too.

Tight security arrangements have been made in industrial districts of Sareikela-Kharswan and West Singhbhum, police said.

The pro-domicile groups -- Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch and Jharkhand Moolwasi Sadan Janadhikar Manch -- have claimed they have the support of at least 56 groups.

The All Jharkhand Students Union (Mahato) -- a coalition partner in the ruling National Democratic Alliance government in the state -- and the other two AJSU factions - Besra and Chintamani -- form the anti-domicile front.

The anti-domicile groups had called a bandh on July 18.
