Top Manipur education dept officer sent to jail for defying court order

A commissioner in Manipur's education department was on Tuesday sent to jail for ten days for defying a court order to give necessary allowances to a retired college principal.

Manihar Singh, a retired principal of a college, had complained to the court that he had not been paid his allowances by the government while he was principal of the Modern College in Imphal.

Justice N S Singh of the Imphal bench of the Guwahati high court said the court had no alternative but to penalise I S Laishram for his defiance and deliberate disobedience of its order in the matter.
