Punjab Vigilance Board to act against alleged beneficiaries

Punjab Vigilance Bureau is considering action against all those who allegedly paid money to get jobs in the state government on the recommendations of Punjab Public Service Commission during the tenure of suspended chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu.

PVB sources said that a list of beneficiaries has been made on the basis of information gathered during the interrogation of the arrested, including Jagman Singh, Paramjit Singh Gill alias Pammi, Randhir Singh Gill alias Dheera and Prem Sagar.

Additional Director General of Police A P Pandey had recently released the names of about 40 beneficiaries who were alleged to have paid money as per statements of arrested before the Bureau officials.

Income Tax department sources said that they were also keeping a tab on the investigations in the infamous cash-for-job scandal in the PPSC as alleged beneficiaries may have to explain as to from where they got the money to pay bribes.

PVB has sent notices to some of the beneficiaries asking them to divulge their sources of income following which they could pay to get jobs.

The state government has already 'dispensed' with the services of 28 Punjab Civil Services officers recruited during Sidhu's tenure and reverted another 18 promotee officers, besides directing a review of about 3,500 selections made.

Meanwhile, a local court on Friday remanded to judicial custody Professor Gurpal Singh of Punjabi University arrested by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with the PPSC scam.

The court sent Singh to judicial custody till July 17.
