Flood situation in Bihar worsens

The flood situation in Bihar on Friday aggravated with major rivers like the Punpun, Bagmati, Kosi and Gandak in spate following incessant rains in their catchment areas in the past 48 hours.

According to a Central Water Commission report, the turbulent Punpun and Bagmati were flowing 35 cm and 22 cm above the red mark at Sripalpur and Benibad respectively.

The Gandak and Kosi were also rising, the report said.

The state's relief and rehabilitation department sources said that nearly 100,000 people in 200 villages, spread over five districts of Sheohar, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Madhubani, were affected by the floods.

Meanwhile, rail traffic was disrupted since Thursday night on Kiul-Gaya section of the Eastern Railway as swirling waters of the Ganga and Kiul submerged the tracks between Sheikhpura and Sirari stations.
