Bharat Shah's trial commences in special court

Film financier Bharat Shah, charged with maintaining links with the underworld, went on trial in a special court in Mumbai on Tuesday.

The trial opened with the deposition of Deputy Commissioner of Police R D Shinde, who had recorded another accused Nasim Rizvi's confession.

Rizvi in his confessional had implicated his assistant Abdul Rahim, Shah and mafia don Chhota Shakeel. He has since disowned the confession.

Other accused in the case, Abdul Rahim and Dubai-based diamond trader Mohammed Shamshuddin alias Bhatija were present in the court on Tuesday.
