SC asks Maharashtra govt to intervene in Shah bail plea

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Maharashtra government directing it to intervene in the Bharat Shah bail plea case within four weeks.

Film Financier Bharat Shah had moved the Supreme Court on Friday asking it to intervene and issue notice to prosecution for bail.

Shah's trial was to begin on January 8, but was deferred as accused Nazim Rizvi and Shah, could not be produced in court due to ill-health.

Bharat Shah was arrested for his alleged links with the underworld.

Shah had sought bail for seven occasions, which were rejected by the Mumbai High Court and the special designated court.
