Jayalalithaa drops two ministers

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday dropped two ministers from her cabinet.

Governor P S Ramamohan Rao relieved C Durairaj and R Vilwanathan from the council of ministers with immediate effect, a Raj Bhavan communique said. Durairaj had already announced his intention to resign following the 'child burial' episode in Madurai district.

The portfolios held by Durairaj and Vilwanathan have been allocated to Local Administration Minister M C Sampath and Electricity and Industries Minister Nainar Nagendran, respectively.

Sampath had now been designated as Minister for Local Administration and Housing and Urban Development while Nainar Nagendran would be known as Minister for Electricity, Industries and Rural Industries, the communique said.
