J&K polls: 2nd phase notification issued

The Election Commission on Thursday issued a notification for the second phase of polls to be held for the 28 assembly constituencies of Jammu, Srinagar, and Budgam districts on September 24.

According to the notification, nomination papers can be filed till September 5. The papers will be srutinised by the respective returning officers on September 6. The last date for withdrawal of candidature has been fixed for September 9.

The constituencies going to the polls in this phase are 10 in Srinagar, five in Budgam and 13 in Jammu (including Samba, R S Pura, Raipura, Domana, and Chhamb).

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer B S Jamwal said this would be the largest phase of the polls, involving over 2,000 polling stations and 20 lakh voters.

Meanwhile, nominations for the 26 segments in six districts going to the polls on September 16 closed at 1500 IST on Thursday. Eighty-four candidates have so far filed their nominations for the first phase, Jamwal added.
