Vajpayee to meet Bush on UN General Assembly sidelines

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is expected to meet United States President George Bush on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session in New York, which begins on September 9, sources said on Wednesday.

Vajpayee's proposed visit to the US will be part of the talks that Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage will be having with the Indian leadership during his (Armitage's) daylong stay in India on Friday.

This will be Vajpayee's second interaction with Bush since November 2001 when the two leaders had met in Washington.

The prime minister's agenda is still being worked out, and may include his participation in a memorial service in New York for the victims of the September 11 terror attacks.

He is likely to address the General Assembly on September 13, after Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's address to the assembly.
