One arrested in Bajrang Dal leader's murder case

Police have arrested Mohammed Salim Vali Ahmed Quereshi alias Salim Baba, one of the accused in the murder of advocate Lalit Jain, a Bajrang Dal activist from Bhiwandi, who was shot dead on Wednesday.

Following the arrest on Wednesday night, the victim's relatives, who had refused to take charge of the body demanding arrest of the culprits, did so on Thursday to perform his last rites.

Jain was on his way to the court when three unidentified persons intercepted his vehicle near a gate of the court and fired three rounds killing him instantly.

All shops and commercial establishments, which had downed their shutters soon after the incident, continued to remain closed on Thursday in response to the bandh call given by the Shiv Sena, BJP and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

Meanwhile, prohibitory orders are still in force in the powerloom town with additional police forces deployed to maintain law and order.

Police said the situation was normal and under control.
