Rejection of Modi's resignation a
notice to allies: Shambhu

Samata Party leader Shambhu Srivastava, who quit as general secretary and spokesman of the party on Friday night, termed the rejection of resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi by the BJP national executive as a "notice" to allies that the party would continue with "its own agenda."

Stating that now it was for the allies to decide whether to continue in the National Democratic Alliance, the Samta Party leader said: "It is a kind of litmus test for all NDA allies where they will have to prove how genuine their concern and protests about the communal carnage in Gujarat has been."

Reacting to Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's speech at a public rally in Panaji, Srivastwa said: "It is unfortunate that the prime minister has endorsed Modi's line on Gujarat riots."
