Cauvery issue: TN seeks Centre's intervention

N Sathiya Moorthy in Madras

An all-party delegation led by Tamil Nadu Education Minister M Thambidurai and Public Works Minister N Thalavai Sundaram would be leaving for New Delhi on Monday.

The delegation would urge the Centre to impress upon Karnataka to release adequate quantum of Cauvery waters.

The opposition would also be joining the delegation.

Incidentally, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa would not be going to New Delh.

"Karnataka has a storage of 97 tmcft of waters in the four reservoirs across the Cauvery," the chief minister said. "It can retain 58 tmcft and release the rest to Tamil Nadu at the rate of 1 tmcft of water a day."
