Abu Salem under arrest: Bhujbal

By Our Correspondent in Bombay

Abu Salem, Dubai-based lieutenant of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, was on Wednesday reportedly placed under arrest in the United Arab Emirates.

However, while Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Chhagan Bhujbal confirmed that Salem had indeed been arrested somewhere in the Gulf region, he refused to specifically confirm the country in which the arrest has been made.

He said that CBI and IB teams will reach that country and only then will the government make any comment about the country in question.

Apart from a host of criminal cases, Abu Salem is also wanted in connection with the 1993 Bombay blasts.

Salem's name had figured during investigations into match-fixing allegations in cricket and he is also suspected to be behind the killing of audio-cassette mogul Gulshan Kumar in 1997.
