Scindia's death a 'bolt from the blue': PM

Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi

Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday registered his grief over the death of senior Congress leader Madhavrao Scindia by equating it with the falling of lightning.

"Lightning has struck. Can fate be so cruel? My homage," the prime minister wrote on the condolence register placed on the table outside the departed leader's Safdarjang Road residence in New Delhi.

Vajpayee spent around 15 minutes at the residence and was seen consoling the family members.

He was accompanied by daughter Namita.
