N Sathiya Moorthy in Madras
At the end of marathon hearings spread over 16 working days, the Madras high court on Thursday reserved orders in the TANSI land deal cases, which have a bearing on the political future of the former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
Justice N Dinakar, who was named to hear and dispose of the appeals flowing from the trial court conviction against Jayalalithaa and others, after the Supreme Court had ordered the transfer of part-heard cases, did not set a date for pronouncing verdict at the conclusion of arguments.
The two Tansi cases flowed from Jaya Publications and Sasi Enterprises, two firms of which Jayalalithaa was a partner, purchasing property owned by public sector TANSI corporation during her first term as chief minister.
The main issues before the high court flowed from the alleged loss of stamp-duty, which is being sought to be ascertained through the delineation of the 'guideline value', and 'market value' for the TANSI property.
