Bangaru, Jaitley, 23 others get notices

Justice K Venkataswami Commission on Friday issued notices to former Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman, Samata Party leader Jaya Jaitley and 23 others, including three serving major generals, directing them to respond within a week to tehelka.com's expose on defence deals.

An Army Court of Inquiry had recently found Maj Gen P S K Choudhary and Maj Gen Manjit Singh Ahluwalia guilty of "misconduct" in connection with the Tehelka sting operation which exposed corruption in defence deals.

Venkataswami Commission, which would begin its first regular hearing from June 6, has also issued notices to Laxman's personal assistant Satyamurthy, former Samata Party treasurer R K Jain, senior Samata leader Surendra Singh Sulekha and former additional secretary in Defence Ministry L M Mehta, who is now with the Planning Commission.
