Manipur may be placed under
President's rule: Chaoba

President's rule is likely to be imposed in Manipur following the political crisis arising out of the fall of the Samata Party-led Radhabinod Koijam ministry, Union Minister of State for Food Processing and NDA emissary Chaoba Singh said on Thursday in Imphal.

"Because of the betrayal of trust of the National Democratic Alliance leadership by the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators, there is a possibility of imposition of Central rule in the state," Singh told reporters in Imphal.

Singh, who attended the NDA coordination committee meeting on Monday in Delhi, said the Manipur crisis had not affected the relations between various NDA partners.

He added that the Radhabinod Koijam ministry was not a 'pure NDA government' as several non-NDA parties were part of the coalition.

Meanwhile, Raj Bhavan sources said Governor Ved Marwah has been in touch with senior state leaders belonging to a cross-section of political parties.

Former chief minister W Nipamacha Singh, former public health engineering minister O Joy Singh, former higher education minister H Bhuban Singh, former horticulture minister M Hemanta Singh, former forest minister Gangmumei Kamei and former urban development minister P Acho Singh separately called on the governor to apprise him of the political developments, sources added.
