Adoption racket accused Anita Sen
surrenders before court

In a sudden and dramatic development, Anita Sen, a prime accused in the child adoption racket in Andhra Pradesh, surrendered before a Hyderabad court on Saturday.

Anita Sen, wife of senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Swaranjit Sen, walked into the court of Ninth Metropolitan Magistrate Anand Rao around 1200 hours (IST) and surrendered.

Accused of running an unlicensed adoption centre 'Precious Moments' in Miyapur on the city outskirts, she was absconding ever since the infant sale racket was busted in April.

Anita Sen carried a reward of Rs 500,000 on her head.

Her accomplice, Sarita Bandala, was arrested on Tuesday and produced before the same court before she was remanded to judicial custody till May 30.

The police department was expected to request the court to hand over Anita Sen to the department to carry out investigations.

Sen's husband was relieved of his post as Additional Director General of Police (DGP) last week following Anita's alleged involvement in the racket.
